Summer is peak season for vacationing and boating.  You will find restaurants open 7 days a week and all the lake activities in full action. The main channel is going to be abuzz with familes pulling their kids on tubes, wake boards, knee boards and skis.  You will hear children laughing and splashing at the state park beach. If you are lucky, you may even be able to flag down the ice cream boat from your dock.

Spring and Fall are the perfect time to enjoy a much calmer and quieter lake. You can still  enjoy water activities such as boating, skiing, wake boarding, visiting the beaches of the state parks, and exploring all the SML has to offer. without the crowds.

Winter is the quietest of the seasons.  The lake provides great year round living for many offering mild winter temperatures and the occasional snowfall, which usually last a few days.

Smith Mountain Lake Weather Forecast has four distinct seasons:

Spring: 67 high

Summer: 85 high (July is the warmest month)

Fall: 69 high

Winter: 51 high, 2-3 snows per year (January is the coolest month)

• 47 inches precip annually
• The highest recorded temperature was 102°F in 1988.
• The lowest recorded temperature was -11°F in 1985.
